This risk can be mitigated by ensuring that access to the Internet from remote locations is secure and/or protecting the data.Secure ShellSecure Shell, or SSH is a secure channel for exchanging data. This software is available to the U-M community to download for free. http://www.itd.umich.edu/bluedisc/ U-M Virtual Private Network (VPN)Using Virtual Private Network (VPN) technology, you can securely connect to the campus network from a remote location. All you need is an Internet connection and VPN Client software (see below). Once you've made a VPN connection to the campus network, you can perform the usual tasks, like emailing your sensitive data to yourself, or copying it to an AFS or another server. |
