Service Description
The Andrew File System (AFS) is a distributed network file system for use by U-M faculty, staff, and students. It is a U-M service provided by Information and Technology Services and located on the U-M Ann Arbor campus. AFS is used to store many U-M websites. MFile is one of the most frequently used tools for accessing AFS.
Compliance
AFS is not intended for storage of sensitive university data and does not have the required safeguards in place for use with sensitive regulated data. You may, with caution and Information Assurance (IA) consultation, use AFS for student data regulated by FERPA. IA staff members will help you ensure that permissions to access the data are set appropriately. Contact IA via the ITS Service Center. You may not use AFS for any other sensitive university data.
