Scam summary: Scammers send an email message that appears to be a party invitation from someone known to the recipient and is sent from that known person's email address. For example, the sending email address is the personal Gmail account of a colleague at U-M. In reality, the email account has been compromised -- is being accessed and controlled by an unauthorized person (the scammer).
If the recipient clicks the link to view the invitation card, they are asked to initiate a malicious download to their device.
Red flag: You should never be required to initiate and execute a download in order to view an invitation.
