If you have paper records with sensitive university data, or that no longer need to be retained, you are responsible for disposing of them securely when they are no longer needed. The best way is to shred them.
- Shred paper documents for secure disposal.
- Use the confidential paper-shredding bins available in many U-M units. If you don't have access to these, it is best to use a cross-shredder.
- Shred unneeded personal paper documents as well to help protect your own privacy and personal information.
- Do not put paper documents containing sensitive data in wastebaskets or unsecured recycle bins.
