MPrint Data

Information and Technology Services (ITS) provides a printing service, MPrint, that allows campus community members to print from their computers or mobile devices to many printers on the Ann Arbor campus. The MPrint service is used at Campus Computing Sites and throughout academic and administrative units that subscribe to the service. Systems such as PaperCut are used to collect and process print logs.

What MPrint Data We Collect

  • User credentials
such as uniqname and Mcard number
  • Session information
such as timestamp, printer name, server name, IP address, name of print account, jobs held in Follow-me queue

How We Use MPrint Data

The University of Michigan uses MPrint data to enable:

  • Service Support
Troubleshoot problems with the PaperCut application
  • Cost Management
Calculate cost and charge users and/or Shortcodes for printing at Campus Computing Sites
  • Reporting
Support internal reporting based on aggregated data such as total page counts or total cost. Some departmental reports may include uniqname and in some cases may show document names. These reports are not in use in the Campus Computing Sites environment.

How We Collect MPrint Data

  • Automatically
when you submit and execute print jobs utilizing the MPrint service.

How We Share MPrint Data

The University of Michigan does not sell or rent your MPrint information. We may share your information with service providers who are helping with troubleshooting. We strive to require our service providers to keep your personal information secure and use it only for providing services on the university’s behalf.
